Unlocking the Path to Resilience: Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) in organizations

Stress and pressure have become our constant companions. The toll this daily stress takes on our bodies and minds can be overwhelming, impacting productivity, well-being, and overall success.

TRE®

Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) offer a transformative and holistic approach to release stored tension, and stress from the body, without having to talk about the circumstances. Therefore, empowering individuals to reclaim their resilience and thrive in the face of challenges. In this blog post, we will explore the origins and benefits of TRE®, with a particular focus on how it can benefit us in the workplace.

The Benefits of TRE® in the workplace

  1. Stress Reduction: TRE® offers an effective tool for reducing stress and anxiety in both managers and employees. As they release tension from their bodies through the exercises, they may experience a profound sense of relaxation, allowing them to approach their work with greater clarity and focus.
  2. Improved Resilience: Regular practice of TRE® can enhance resilience, enabling individuals to bounce back from challenges more quickly. This heightened resilience can be particularly valuable in high-pressure corporate environments, where adaptability and problem-solving skills are essential.
  3. Emotional Regulation: TRE® helps individuals to connect with and regulate their emotions more effectively. For decision makers, this can lead to more measured and balanced decision-making, reducing the risk of making impulsive choices driven by stress or anxiety.
  4. Enhanced Creativity and Innovation: By releasing the physical and emotional blocks that hinder creativity, TRE® can unleash a renewed flow of ideas and innovative thinking. Stressed employees and decision makers can tap into their full creative potential and approach problem-solving from fresh perspectives.
  5. Improved Sleep and Well-being: TRE® has been shown to potentially improve sleep quality, which is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and well-being. Employees and decision makers who engage in TRE® are more likely to experience restful sleep and wake up refreshed, ready to tackle the day’s challenges.

Origins of Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®)

TRE® was developed by Dr. David Berceli, a renowned trauma specialist, based on his observations of the natural movement that occurs in humans and animals after experiencing highly stressful situations. Shaking and moving is the body’s innate mechanism for releasing accumulated tension and trauma.

How does TRE® work?

During a TRE® session, I will guide you through a series of 7 simple exercises that activate these movements or tremors – by demonstrating, verbal guiding, and without touch. It is not a workout, but rather enables individuals to release stored stress, anxiety, and trauma from their bodies and restore a sense of balance and well-being. In the beginning, it is strongly recommend to take a few sessions with a certified provider. Typically, a session is 60 minutes long. They are available for individuals and small groups (max. 8 participants at a time). At Somanima, you can learn how to safely practice the exercises and how to self-regulate the intensity and your nervous system. Once that is established, TRE® can become part of your personal toolbox and you can use it everywhere at any time by yourself.

The Body’s Role in Holding Daily Stress

The body acts as a reservoir for daily stress, accumulating tension from the challenges and pressures encountered in all areas of life. The brain may process stress cognitively, but the body physically stores these stress responses. Most of the time, this happens subconsciously and we don’t even notice it. Over time, this tension can manifest in physical symptoms, such as headaches, back pain, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal issues, in addition to emotional symptoms like irritability and anxiety. That said, TRE® sessions and programs do not guarantee a cure and are not a substitute for qualified medical or professional care. TRE® practitioners do not diagnose or interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional.

TRE® can provide an avenue for releasing this accumulated stress and tension, giving managers, decision makers, and employees a tangible and proactive way to maintain their well-being. By incorporating TRE® into their routines, they can liberate their bodies from the burden of stress and create space for clarity, focus, and improved performance in their professional roles.
